I spend a fair share of my time working with video images on a computer screen in my other life as an editor, and every once in a while I come across a single frame of video footage that is compelling all on its own, and on really rare occasions, I find a frame so compelling I use it as reference for a painting.  I suppose it was the recognition of those rare moments that first grabbed me when I came across Monica Tap’s series of paintings entitled “one-second hudson”.  Her work in this series is inspired by quicktime videos of landscapes filmed from moving vehicles, and I love the sense of frozen time and energy in these images.
