Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter

After a successful trip to the outdoor art show last month, we finally decided it was time to bring our son to the AGO, and I have to shamefully admit that it was also the first time I’ve visited since the Frank Gehry transformation was revealed many months ago.  The building itself is well worth the trip, and aside from one minor freak-out, it also proved highly agreeable to our 6-week old baby (which means he slept through the whole trip.)

One of the highlights for me was the mini-retrospective of Gerhard Richter’s work.  He is an incredibly versatile painter, demonstrated by a few originals spanning vastly different styles, but it was only after finding a book of his portraits down in the gift shop that I really got sucked in.  His early portraits, based on photographs, and rendered in a soft-focus, are incredibly beautiful and haunting.

All in all, another very successful trip with an infant.  This parenting thing is pretty good!
